The UESHIMA MUSEUM in Shibuya, Tokyo, has refreshed its in-house exhibitions, opening to the general public on September 2. On floors B1 to 5, the museum continues its Collection Exhibition series with the third installment, "Images Burn, Images Distort, and Sublimate into Light," curated by Yuko Hasegawa. On the 6th floor, Saki Nara, a potter and architect, curates "Toki no Utsuho" (The Mirror of Time), introducing tea ceramics and contemporary ceramics. The UESHIMA MUSEUM opened in 2024 as a venue to display the collection of businessman Mikuro Ueshima, housing over 850 works by domestic and international artists under the theme of "contemporaneity." The exhibition by Yuko Hasegawa utilizes all six floors, from the basement to the top, organizing works under themes such as "Destruction and Landscape," "City and Traces," "Repetition and Image," "Portrait and Concealment," "Fragment and City," and "Light and Shadow -- A Place to Let Go of Images." The exhibition is designed so that the act of "seeing" changes as the viewer ascends physically from the basement to the top floor. The exhibition features works by Ai Weiwei, Andy Warhol, Olafur Eliasson, Yayoi Kusama, Gerhard Richter, Kiki Smith, James Turrell, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Yoshitomo Nara, Pipilotti Rist, and Takashi Murakami, among others.
