Alumna Yumi Tsunohira Wins Top Prize in the Sculpture Category at the 82nd Contemporary Art Exhibition
Summary
Yumi Tsunohira, a 2025 graduate of Kanazawa University, has been awarded the top prize (Excellence Award and Kanazawa Mayor's Award) in the sculpture category at the 82nd Contemporary Art Exhibition. Her winning work, titled "Aun no Neko" (Aun Cats), features a large-scale sculpture of cats inspired by her own pets, reimagined as "Koma-neko" (guardian cats) similar to traditional guardian dogs. Having started sculpting only after entering university, this graduation project marks a remarkable achievement for her first submission to the exhibition. The exhibition runs until April 13, with her work on display at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
