Collection Exhibition 2026-Ⅰ
Summary
The Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art celebrates its 3rd anniversary with the first chapter of its annual collection exhibition, themed "Time at the Museum." This exhibition, titled "Chapter 1: Time Machine," explores the various times inscribed in artworks, such as the time of depicted events, the era of creation, and the time of the viewers. It examines how artworks transcend eras to create new encounters and how exhibitions and museum collections connect the past, present, and future. The display is divided into three sections: "Time Represented / Representing Time," which focuses on artists whose work centers on time itself; "Left in the Work / The Work Remains," which considers the traces of the era left in artworks and their preservation for the future; and "The Hiroshima Prize and the Theme of Hiroshima," which reviews the museum's activities in promoting peace through art and how these have been integrated into the collection. Additionally, a special display of Yasumasa Morimura's "Death of Time" (1989) will be held during the exhibition period.
