High School Students Team Up: Kumamoto's Arau Night Market T-Shirt Designed by Art Club Members "Wear and Enjoy the Festival"
Summary
In Kumamoto Prefecture’s Arau City, art club members from Tai-shi High School collaborated with the local tourism association to design the official T‑shirt for the Arau Night Market. The project, aimed at connecting student creativity with regional events, saw four students—second‑year Sakamoto Kome (16) and third‑year Miyagawa Kanon (17) for the front and back designs, respectively—complete the artwork in about a month after school. The front features a bold combination of the Manda Pit’s excavation site and a full moon, while the back creatively renders the letter “Y” using the pit and a moon motif to evoke a nighttime atmosphere. Additional designs by third‑year Matsumoto Chisato (17) and Yano Rinka (17) were selected for the market’s official website. The T‑shirts, available in white and black with 500 pieces in sizes S to 3L, are sold for 2,000 yen at the Manda Pit soba shop, with proceeds supporting the market’s operations. Miyagawa and Sakamoto emphasize that the shirts are meant for people of all ages and nationalities to wear and share the festival’s joy.
