10th Anniversary Exhibition for the Birth of LABUBU 'MONSTERS BY MONSTERS: NOW AND THEN' Held at Azabudai Hills. Original Art and Historical Figures Also Revealed
Summary
POP MART JAPAN is holding a 10th-anniversary exhibition for 'THE MONSTERS' series by Kasing Lung at Azabudai Hills Gallery. This exhibition marks the Tokyo stop of a global tour that began in Shanghai, followed by Taipei, Hong Kong, and Paris. Kasing Lung was born in Hong Kong in 1972 and moved to the Netherlands in his childhood. His interest in European fairy tales and folklore, influenced by his upbringing, led to the creation of the 'THE MONSTERS' series. Among them, 'LABUBU' has gained worldwide popularity as a character possessing both cuteness and a hint of unease. The origin of the series lies in the picture book trilogy 'THE MONSTERS TRILOGY,' which consists of 'The Story of Puca,' 'Pato and the Girl,' and 'Miró's Requiem.' At the venue, immersive exhibitions are presented that allow visitors to enter the world of the picture books. In particular, the 'The Story of Puca' area, which is being unveiled for the first time, features an animation by creative studio toito, screened via 5-sided projection and surround sound. The world of the elusive picture book, published in a limited edition of only a few hundred copies, is reconstructed as a spatial experience.
