The Marimekko exhibition “The Power of Patterns” opens at the Kyoto Cultural Museum from July 4 to September 6 before touring Tokyo’s Garden Museum and Hiroshima Museum and other venues nationwide. Showcasing the Finnish brand’s iconic print designs—over 3,500 patterns since its 1951 founding—the show presents roughly 70 dresses spanning the 1960s to recent collections, along with sketches, cut‑outs, and original pattern drawings that illustrate how a paper drawing becomes fabric. Special installations include an art‑unit plaplax projection piece on the print‑factory process and a new work by designer Minna Perhonen and Akira Minagawa using Marimekko‑produced fabric.
