Yokosuka Museum of Art to reopen on September 5, with collection exhibition including newly acquired works
Summary
The Yokosuka Museum of Art in Kanagawa Prefecture completed approximately ten months of renovation work that began in November 2025 and reopened on September 5. The refurbishment included maintenance of facilities and exterior, as well as enhancements to artwork explanations such as the release of a works database, expanded audio guides, and sign‑language videos. To celebrate the reopening, the museum is holding a collection exhibition that presents over 6000 works from its holdings together with newly acquired items. Special exhibitions include the "Shozo Shimada Exhibition" (September 5–November 3), showcasing about 130 oil paintings, prints, and watercolors plus new acquisitions, and featuring the artist’s easel, palette, and other personal items. An installation by local artist Junko Maruyama is displayed in the atrium, while the adjacent annex hosts the "Rokuro Tanai Exhibition" focusing on works with motifs of moonlight and starlight, including original illustrations from the picture book "Binn no Sora\). On opening day, a museum talk is scheduled, and pre‑events such as an outdoor cinema party are planned for August. Details are available on the museum’s website.
