Nerima City Art Museum Collection: Fumio Wakabayashi – Run and Rest – | Terada Mayumi – Absence of Presence – @ Nerima City Art Museum
Summary
From July 25 to October 18, 2026, Nerima City Art Museum will simultaneously host two solo exhibitions—Fumio Wakabayashi’s “Run and Rest” and Terada Mayumi’s “Absence of Presence”—drawing primarily on the museum’s own collection. Wakabayashi, born in 1936, is a sculptor who works mainly with iron, expressing his observations of nature, time, and space in abstract forms. He has exhibited at the Venice Biennale and major museums worldwide, and the current show will feature the 1996 sculpture “Run and Rest” along with 70 donated works, including prints and drawings, offering a rare glimpse into his shift between three‑dimensional and two‑dimensional media. Terada, born in 1958, is a photographer known for interior models that create introspective, almost lifelike rooms. Her work, largely monochrome, has recently incorporated subtle color and even stone carving. Since 2001 she has been based in New York, and this exhibition traces her early three‑dimensional pieces, signature photographs, models, and sculptures, presenting a comprehensive view of her evolving practice.
