Dufy Exhibition to be Held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum; Original Fresco Painting “Spirit of Electricity” Arrives in Japan
Summary
From April 24 to August 22, 2027, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in Ueno will host a major exhibition dedicated to French painter Raoul Dufy, marking the 150th anniversary of his birth. The show draws primarily on works from the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, highlighting Dufy's vibrant use of color and his multidisciplinary designs. The centerpiece is a rare 1:10 scale original painting of the massive fresco “Spirit of Electricity,” created for the 1937 Paris World Fair; the full fresco measures 60 meters wide and is installed in a dedicated gallery in Paris. After its Tokyo run, the exhibition will travel to the Kyocera Museum of Art in Kyoto from September 11 to December 12, 2027.
