New Space Created by Architecture and Art: "Almost, Sky: Jun Aoki + Richard Tuttle" Exhibition
Summary
This exhibition is a collaboration between architect Jun Aoki and artist Richard Tuttle, aiming to create a space that is neither purely architecture nor purely art. By overlapping Aoki's concept of architecture as "air" (a free space for diverse values) with Tuttle's concept of art as "light" (a medium to share truth and beauty), the exhibition creates a space filled with margins and subtle changes.
The installation features elements designed by Tuttle, such as structures made from construction materials and decorative bands, alongside furniture and lighting crafted by Aoki using repurposed pedestals from previous exhibitions. The exhibition also reconfigures the gallery's functional areas, including the museum shop and collection displays, to transform the entire environment.
By encouraging visitors to look upward—a departure from the common habit of looking down at smartphones—the exhibition prompts a renewed awareness of one's physical presence and the spatial perception of the surroundings.
