Photographer Issei Nishimura Captures the Invisible Structure in Clothing. 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE Photo Exhibition 'Light Touches, Fold and Form'
Summary
The brand '132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE' will begin selling 'NO. 6 TRANSLUCENT,' which combines the basic folding structure 'NO. 6' with the element of 'translucency,' on May 1. To coincide with this release, the photo exhibition 'Light Touches, Fold and Form' by photographer Issei Nishimura will be held at ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA | CUBE in Tokyo and ISSEY MIYAKE SEMBA | CREATION SPACE in Osaka from May 1 to June 27. Focusing on the invisible structures residing in clothing, Nishimaru utilizes two techniques: 'photograms' and 'scanninggrams.' His works, centered on these camera-less photographic techniques, feature motifs such as plants, insects, bird feathers, water, and nudes. In this exhibition, Nishimaru uses photograms, where the subject is placed directly on photographic paper to be sensitized, to express the intersecting structural lines that appear only with translucent fabric and the forms that rise with light as abstract images. Additionally, using scanninggrams, a technique where models created during the product design phase are placed on a scanner and captured through transmitted light, the pure composition of the folding structure itself is precisely reflected. Through these two techniques, the exhibition depicts a 'landscape of forms' woven by lines, surfaces, and layers that transcend the appearance of clothing. This exhibition offers a valuable opportunity to re-examine the concept of clothing and invites viewers into the profound world of folds and forms.
