MORINAGA YO's Work Exhibition 1987-2026: Picture Books, Mokei, and Grandpa
Summary
An exhibition titled "MORINAGA YO's Work Exhibition 1987-2026: Picture Books, Mokei, and Grandpa" is being held at Kurumaya Museum in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture. Illustrator and picture book author Morinaga Yo (born 1966) debuted in 1987 with a cut illustration in "Asahi Weekly." He is known for his "reportage illustrations" that use his unique perspective and detailed drawings to convey scenes from the field. Since 1998, he has gained popularity for his explanatory illustrations featuring plastic models, and depicting Mokei (molded figures) has become his life's work. Following the publication of picture books such as "Shinkansen to Sharyouchi" (Shinkansen and Rolling Stock Depots), he continues to be popular for his warm and humorous style. The exhibition will feature approximately 50 original illustrations and picture books, along with object works and paintings by his grandfather, Kyosuke Kikukawa (1897–1985), a Japanese painter who worked on woodblock prints for the art magazine "Kokka." The exhibition is being held in Oyama City, where his grandfather spent his childhood, and includes a special display titled "Morinaga Boy's Summer Vacation Landscape" at the Komagawa House located on the museum grounds. Related events include a talk event with Muneaki Miyawaki of Kousokudo and a gallery talk with his editors.
