Mel Chin: 12th Hiroshima Prize Commemoration Exhibition
Summary
Hiroshima City established the Hiroshima Prize in 1989 to broadcast the "Hiroshima Spirit" of eternal world peace and human prosperity through art. The Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting a commemorative exhibition for Mel Chin, the winner of the 12th Hiroshima Prize. Mel Chin (1951–) has expressed ideas motivated by complex social issues, such as environmental problems, through unique methods that are not bound by existing categories. His unique and extensive body of work, ranging from sculpture, drawing, painting, video, animation, and video games to large-scale public installations, has attracted people from diverse backgrounds and raised awareness of society. The exhibition, which is Mel Chin's first solo exhibition in Japan, introduces his activities through representative works to date and displays new works created for Hiroshima, presenting the possibility of social change and self-transformation through art. The exhibition will be held at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art from July 25, 2026, to October 12, 2026.
