In the Gallery or at Home. Artizon Museum Challenges the Next Step in Audio Guide Form
Summary
At the Artizon Museum, the exhibition "Claude Monet: Questions to Landscape" features an innovative audio guide accessible via smartphone, developed by a team including museum staff and external professionals. Unlike previous paid rental systems, this web-based guide allows free access from any network, extending the viewing experience beyond the gallery walls to those unable to visit. The guide includes rich visual content such as videos of birds like the "kakashi" (scarecrow) and an interactive timeline called "Monenpyo" where an animated Monet walks through his life. The project emphasizes intuitive operation and minimal text to avoid overwhelming the viewer. Collaborating with DNP Art Communications, illustrator Fumiko Koi, design firm STORK, and voice actor Yoshimasa Hosoya, the museum achieved a high-quality, cross-departmental and cross-industry creation. The guide aims to break the conventional shell of audio guides and enhance the appreciation experience through technology.
