GO FOR KOGEI Exhibition in conjunction with the Venice Biennale. 'Craft Sensibility' to resist an accelerating society
Summary
In conjunction with the 61st Venice Biennale, the exhibition 'Ethnography of Body and Matter—Slowness and Depth in an Accelerating Society' is currently being held at Palazzo Pisani Santa Maria in Venice, Italy, curated by GO FOR KOGEI Artistic Director Yushi Akimoto. The exhibition runs from May 9 to November 22. GO FOR KOGEI is a project that disseminates the charm of new crafts, unbound by the genres of traditional craftsmanship originating in the Hokuriku region, and has expanded its international projects to France, Korea, the UK, and Taiwan. This exhibition serves as an inquiry into the 'craft approach' or 'craft sensibility' by attempting to restore the temporal sense and bodily perception inherent in the act of 'making' in modern society where information and consumption expand without limit. The participating artists include 10 Japanese artists active both domestically and internationally: Orin Oki, Yuji Kawai, Takuro Kuwata, Takahiro Komuro, Shige Fujishiro, Noritaka Tatehana, Masahiro Nakata, Ritsue Mishima, Hihi Mutta, and Yui Wata.
