Riku Yamakawa | Null 'WITH LiMBO' (Part 1)
Summary
The contemporary dance duo Null's new work 'WITH LiMBO' was created as part of the Aichi Arts Center's 'Constellation' project. The work attempts to depict the complex anxieties and hopes of modern society through the body, without relying on words. The performance took place at the Aichi Arts Center's open theater event 'Theater Wonderland', premiering before a planned tour to Slovakia. The audience is provided with a handout containing a text signed by Null that reads, "There are times when I am unsure of the distance between myself and others," along with profiles of the dancers and a brief explanation of the project. Despite this preparation, the reviewer felt that they knew very little about the performers after the show. The work features three dancers and three cubes as key elements. The dancers move the cubes, climb onto them, and perform synchronized movements that highlight the variations in relationships between two and three people. The piece underscores that the work relies on the presence of a third dancer to create the complex relationships depicted on stage.
