The overall picture of the international art exhibition 'TOKYO ATLAS' is announced, giving a new perspective to the city's history and landscape.
Summary
The overall picture of the international art exhibition 'TOKYO ATLAS', scheduled to be held from October 10 to December 20 in the Tokyo Bay area, has been announced. The artistic directors are Makoto Takahashi, Director of the Yayoi Kusama Museum, and Akiko Miki, Director of the Benesse Art Site Naoshima. The title 'ATLAS' is derived from the mythological giant Atlas who supports the world and the word 'atlas' meaning a book of maps. The concept is to transform the act of touring works scattered throughout the city into an experience of drawing a new map. By inserting art into the city's daily life, the exhibition attempts to give a new perspective to existing landscapes, infrastructure, and historical memories. The main venues are located in three areas: Daiba, Otorii, and Aomi. In the Daiba area, which features artificial island Daiba Park and the dynamic coastal scenery of Odaiba Seaside Park, five artists will exhibit: Yayoi Kusama, Ikemura Reiko, Kenta Ishiguma, Rui Miki, and Zhao Yao. Exhibitions include Kusama's 'Garden of Narcissus (1966 / 2026)', Zhao's 'Something in the Air (2019)', and Ishiguma's sound installation. Additionally, a giant rabbit sculpture by Ikemura, measuring about 6 meters in height, will be installed on the water of Odaiba Seaside Park, and Miki will display 3D-printed works featuring weeds. Visitors can experience a space where nature, history, and urban landscapes intersect while strolling through the works.
