Fumio Tomobuchi and Peter Marino's "House of Dior Shinsaibashi" is born in Osaka. A new base where art and food intersect.
Summary
The luxury maison "Dior" is opening a new complex space called "House of Dior Shinsaibashi" in Osaka. Inspired by the relationship between Dior and Japan, this new base is conceived as a space that transcends architecture, art, fashion, and food. The exterior design is handled by architect Fumio Tomobuchi, who also served as the site design producer for the 2025 Osaka/Kansai Expo. The undulating facade is designed to evoke the draping of Christian Dior's haute couture gowns and the layering of fabric. The interior is handled by Peter Marino, who has designed spaces for numerous luxury brands. The four-story building is connected by a grand staircase, with a sculpture by artist Alice Ikok placed at its center. The space is sprinkled with the maison's historical codes, such as marquetry and garden elements. Inside the building, not only fashion items but also numerous art works and design pieces are displayed. Works by painter and stage designer Christian Bérard, who had a relationship with Christian Dior, Claude Lalanne's "Ginko" bench, and plant works by artist Higuchi are used to color the space. Additionally, the restaurant "Monsieur Dior" is also housed in the building. The menu is supervised by Anne-Sophie Pic, known as the female chef who has won the most Michelin stars in the world. The restaurant offers a menu that translates Dior's motifs and codes into cuisine, fusing Japanese ingredients with French cuisine. "House of Dior Shinsaibashi" is scheduled to open on May 21, and the launch of limited items is also planned.
