The judging for the 44th Amami City Art Exhibition, themed "The Wind is from the South... 'Amami' 2026 AMAMI City Art Exhibition," concluded on the 28th, selecting the top prizes (City Art Exhibition Award) in the Art, Photography, and Calligraphy divisions. The winners were Mikiko Ikeda (75) for her artwork "Mibasho" (Real Banana Plant), Kumiko Masumitsu (77) for her photograph "Beloved Child," and Takako Onishi (63) for her calligraphy "Rin Beikaigaku." A total of 1,285 entries were submitted by 1,225 participants ranging from elementary school students to adults. Judges praised Ikeda's piece for capturing the realistic atmosphere and humidity of Amami's landscape with high technical skill, Masumitsu's photo for conveying warm emotion toward the subject, and Onishi's calligraphy for its dignified and high-class execution. The exhibition will be held from February 15th to 23rd at the Amamigawa Commercial Hall, with the awards ceremony on the 15th.
