Chinkin and Weaving: Citizens Experience Crafts at Chushin Art Association WS – Shimin Times
Summary
The Chushin Art Association's craft workshop (WS) began on the 28th at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art, featuring two initial courses: "Chinkin" and "Weaving," with a total of 13 participants enjoying the creation process under instructor guidance. In the weaving course, participants used tabletop looms to create items like scarves or table centers; one 10-year-old student expressed joy in creating a vase mat and seeing patterns emerge. The WS is held annually to allow citizens to easily engage with crafts, attracting a wide range of ages from elementary school students to those in their 70s. The secretariat hopes it serves as an opportunity to pass down skills to younger generations. Three more courses—"Dyeing," "Makie," and "Ceramics"—are scheduled for the 1st, and all completed works will be displayed during the Chushin Art Exhibition in June.
