Sugiie Ako | Beyond the Rainbow | Hayama Yuki Exhibition
Summary
The exhibition "Beyond the Rainbow" featuring the ceramic artist Hayama Yuki will be held at Sogo Museum in Kanagawa. The exhibition dates are from June 6, 2026, to July 17, 2026. Hayama Yuki was born and raised in Arita, Saga Prefecture, a renowned porcelain production area in Japan. He began working at a kiln at the age of 15 due to family circumstances and established his own studio in his 20s. While mastering a wide range of knowledge through self-study, he continued to work tirelessly, building a reputation as a ceramic artist both domestically and internationally. The exhibition is divided into five sections: "The World of Sound," "Fusion of East and West Cultures," "Coexistence with Nature," "Four Great Civilizations," and "Universal Wishes." The works are presented under the grand theme of the universe bringing minerals to Earth, the birth of Earth in the universe, the history of civilization built by humanity, and the coexistence with nature desired for the future. The first section features an installation with Debussy's music playing in the dimly lit space, featuring large wall works titled "Moonlight" and large floor works titled "Vibrations." These are described as "Ceramic Plate Prints," a new expression method developed by Hayama in collaboration with a partner company. They involve painting on ceramic plates, scanning them, enlarging the images 16 times, and transferring them onto tile-like aluminum composite panels. The exhibition showcases Hayama's sincere pursuit of new ceramic art forms alongside his signature detailed narrative depictions.
