The traveling exhibition "Cross-Border: Art Crossing Borders," organized by the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art and the Prefectural Ceramic Museum, has opened at the Toyohashi City Museum of Art and History. This initiative showcases the collections of both museums across various locations in Aichi Prefecture, marking the second time this traveling museum has been held in Toyohashi in 16 years. Focusing on the theme of "cross-border," the exhibition displays 56 items, including paintings and ceramics from Japan and abroad, highlighting artists whose works transcended national boundaries for various reasons, such as study abroad, emigration for work, or exile due to war, following the development of transportation networks from the late 19th century. The works are organized into four sections, including "The Era of Crossing Borders: Japanese Art and Crafts After Opening the Country" and feature pieces by artists like Amedeo Modigliani, Edvard Munch, Tsuguharu Foujita, and Émile Gallé. The exhibition is free to enter and runs until March 22nd, with gallery talks and a museum concert scheduled during its run.
