Lifelike Creations: Middle School Students' Artworks Inspired by Traditional Japanese Sweets Displayed at a Confectionery
Summary
Students from the second and third grades of Iida Higashi Junior High School in Iida City, Nagano Prefecture, created artworks using clay to represent “nerikiri,” a type of traditional Japanese sweet, as part of their art class. These artworks are currently being exhibited at “Tatsuki,” a confectionery shop in Denma-cho, Iida City. The students learned techniques, such as applying patterns with a spatula, from Tatsuki’s president, Shigeru Shirota, during a demonstration. Inspired by the four seasons, they created colorful pieces depicting goldfish, Hina dolls, and snowmen, achieving a remarkably lifelike texture. The president, Shigeru Shirota, commented that the works were well-executed in terms of form, color usage, and texture. The exhibition is open to the public for free from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM until March 31st, with no closing days.
