Atsuko Tezuka, Yozuri Watanabe, Asako Fujikura Question 'The City'. APK PUBLIC Vol.2 Held at TODA BUILDING in Kyobashi
Summary
The public art program 'APK PUBLIC' at the shared spaces of TODA BUILDING in Kyobashi features large-scale works by emerging artists and curators. The second installment, titled 'APK PUBLIC Vol.2: The Becoming City', is curated by Tomoko Yabuzaki and runs until November 30, 2027. The exhibition features three artists—Atsuko Tezuka, Asako Fujikura, and Yozuri Watanabe—who created works for the public space of Toda Corporation's headquarters to question the nature of the city. The entrance is dominated by Tezuka's installation 'Living Things Container (Study from Toda Corporation History)', where the history of modern cities, characterized by repeated demolition and construction, is experienced as multiple layers of fabric. Tezuka visualizes the time and history accumulated in fabric through the act of unraveling and reweaving embroidery. The installation hangs multiple fabrics from a high ceiling, combining motifs such as maps, shopping memos written in multiple languages, and gel nails. The work draws inspiration from Marshall Islands charts and modern textile history and the World Expo. A new Nishijin-ori (Kyoto silk weaving) piece incorporates the land changes in central Tokyo, including the area around Toda Corporation's headquarters, from the late Edo period to the present.
