Public Art "Kiki" Exhibited at Osaka-Kansai Expo Installed in Kanazawa
Summary
The large-scale public artwork "Kiki" by ceramic artist and architect Yuki Nara, which was exhibited at the "Hikari no Hiroba" (Plaza of Light) at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, has been installed in front of the Ishikawa Prefectural Government Memorial Shiinoki Guest House in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The artwork, standing 2.4 meters tall and weighing 3 tons, is composed of 196 aluminum plates, each 3 millimeters thick, joined together through advanced structural design. It expresses "clasped hands" and "the Earth," imbued with prayers for the recovery from the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. Nara expressed hope that the artwork, which reflects sunlight to create a shimmering moiré effect, will illuminate the future and serve as a stage for transmitting the lessons of the earthquake and a hub for intergenerational and intercultural exchange.
