The exhibition ‘Fujishima Tsuguharu: 140th Anniversary – Encountering French Gentle Landscapes in the National Treasure Guest Hall Akasaka Detached Palace’ runs from August 13 to September 15, showcasing all six oil paintings held by the palace, including two previously unseen works that were ceiling decorations for the Ginza Colombe salon, rescued during wartime evacuation and donated in 1974. Fujishima, a French‑trained painter celebrated for his distinctive skin tones and gentle French landscapes, had a prolific career spanning illustration, design, photography, film, stage design and ceramics. The venue, built in 1909 as the Imperial Prince’s residence and designated a national treasure in 2009, has been open to the public since 2016.
