International Art Exhibition "TOKYO ATLAS" Full Program Announced: Offering New Perspectives on Urban History and Landscape
Summary
The full program of the international art exhibition "TOKYO ATLAS," taking place from October 10 to December 20, 2026, in the Tokyo Bay area, was announced about three months before its opening. The artistic directors are Toshiyuki Tatehata (Director of the Kusama Yayoi Museum) and Akiko Miki (Director of the Naoshima New Museum of Art). The title "ATLAS" derives from the mythical giant Atlas who supports the world and the word "atlas" as a map collection, aiming to transform the act of touring artworks scattered throughout the city into an experience of drawing a new map. The main venues are three areas: Odaiba, Tennozu, and Aomi. In the Odaiba area, venues include Odaiba Park, a former artificial island built as a battery in the late Edo period, and Odaiba Seaside Park with its artificial beach. Participating artists include Yayoi Kusama, Leiko Ikemura, Kenta Ishige, Rui Mizuki, and Zhao Yao. Works include Kusama's "Narcissus Garden," Zhao's "Something in the Air," Ishige's sound installation, Ikemura's 6-meter-tall giant rabbit sculpture on the water, and Mizuki's 3D-printed works themed on weeds. Visitors can experience the intersection of nature, history, and urban landscape while strolling.
