Masao Kawamata Selected as the 2026 Artist for Ruinart's 'Conversations with Nature,' Deploying a New Installation in Champagne
Summary
The world’s oldest Champagne house, Ruinart, known for its art program “Conversations with Nature,” has selected Masao Kawamata as its artist for 2026. Kawamata is renowned for his large-scale installations using everyday materials like wood and old furniture, which alter the viewer’s perspective through experiential structures. Inspired by the pavilion designed by Sou Fujimoto, Kawamata created a series of drawings and models that will serve as the foundation for the on-site installation and a permanent work in Reims. The installation will be unveiled at the Maison’s emblematic hub, “4 RUE DES CRAYÈRES,” and exhibited at international art fairs worldwide.
